Michelle Lujan Grisham signed a bill into law expanding learning time for students in the state’s public schools. House Bill 130 mandated an increase in learning time in public schools to 1,140 hours with a minimum of 180 school days. The longer school days for students this year are one way to make up for lost time” in the wake of Covid 19 pandemic closures. Over the next few years we expect to see improved student achievement levels throughout our district and state as a result of the expended learning time. In order to meet these requirements the school day was extended by a maximum of 10 minutes at most GISD schools. We appreciate your continued flexibility and support as we work to provide valuable learning opportunities for your children while remaining compliant with the requirements of the New Mexico Public Education Department.
